This past month 10 artists were commissioned to create installations for 10 store fronts in Chicago’s Wickerpark neighborhood. The project is called ARTichoke and is the product of Christophe Gauspohl. It focuses on “peeling back” layers of the neighborhood and explores the dialogue between space, architectural gesture and the human form. The resident artist for Bonnie&Clyde’s, Aaron Golland (responsible for all of our in-store and window displays) was one of the commissioned artists. As a participant of ARTichoke, Bonnie&Clyde’s was also included in the project. You can see images of our window installation below. We also incorporated a Damir Doma jacket that Stephen and I purchased in Paris from the showroom last month. Check it out!

Each retailer involved was provided with the illuminated dress form with a heart that lights up in the center of the form as seen above.
The display is one of our favorites that we have ever had in the store. Be sure to stop in if you’re in the area and check it out!

After learning more about one of our favorite artist here at Bonnie&Clyde’s, Ray Caesar’s work finally seems to make more “sense” . However when I look at his work now the mystery is only more apparent, no matter how familiar the stories he tells through his work seem to be.

He was a medical artist for 17 years, having the responsibility of sketching exact diagrams of scientific anomalies, sick patents, organs, pre-mature infants & all the machinery used in hospitals. Everything from the drapes, lighting, cold skin is shown in gross detail.
This begins to shine a lite on the strange world he builds full of tiny snap shots of reality, scrapped knees & memories from dusty photo albums.

The beauty of his work is that it seems to form, as a baby in a womb. Disecting, examining & developing into full grown wonderlands.
He sketches & the fine tunes his work through Graphic Art, adding details of love letters, lockets, jam stains & stitches.

A computer being his tool of choice to finish his work & studies seems most appropriate. Like in the halls of the hospitals he worked in, machines helping aid & nurture creatures to exist.

Check out his site: http://www.raycaesar.com/
& We carry his book & collectors box at the shop.
