Horace is a label not altogether easy to come by. Information about the brand is sparse online, and the production is fairly limited. The minimal information seems a willed obscurity, a notion further affirmed after seeing the lines and their accompanying titles. And as you will see, Horace is right at home at Bonnie&Clyde’s.
Horace was started roughly 9 years ago by British designers, Adam Entwisle and Emma Hales. The two had run the label successfully for 7 years before their first showing at the AW/08 London Fashion Week. Though the designers are from the UK, they have opened up a production house in Bali. This location is far more than a means to cheaper labor. For Horace is very much a hybrid of nomadic, tribal influence with the ever cool British street sense.
The design of Horace conveys an almost apocalyptic aura. Each of their lines offers voluminous layers of fabrics, often with a serious draping effect. Hoods and rips and a tattered wholeness. Their first larger scale collection in AW/08 is entitled Desert Survivor, and the name is not misleading. Many of the runway looks appear to be attire scavenged from a ravished desert land or put together in preparation for the impending dissolution of civilized society. Tunics and dense scarves are paired with tight pants and tattered denim. Hanging knits seem custom made for creatures of night.
Tribe-less nomads stalking phantoms of a world yet seen:

Distress echoes through many of the pieces. Whether it is butter soft leather or an over-dyed hooded shawl, each piece displays Far East elements with a grungy, edgy contemporary street feel. Black is the foundation of all their collections, though it is always tempered with various colors and patterns to avoid wallowing in dark monotone. With plaids, stripes, grey, taupe and occasional red, Horace seems to pull from the extreme ends of the contemporary Western fashion world and the eastern, tribal functionality of traditional Eastern desert garb.
Though Horace boasts both men’s and women’s lines respectively, androgyny is paramount. Most of their pieces are technically unisex, nonuniform uniforms for an androgynous generation.

Here are some of my favorite pieces available at Bonnie&Clyde’s:
